About the piece
A polyphonic song in Spanish dedicated to the Virgin, written for several voices. The edition, 49 measures long, carries the tiple, alto, tenor and bass parts.
How to prepare it
This is an advanced work: the polyphony has several independent lines, and the tiple voice reaches C4–D5 (a major ninth) while the bass moves in G2–B♭3 (a minor tenth). Learn each line separately and practice the entrances with a metronome; the challenge is keeping each voice independent without losing the clarity of the text. Sixteenth-century Castilian is pronounced much like today's, which helps.
When to use it
It can be sung at Christmas, at communion and at Marian celebrations.
